Robinhood Completes $200M Acquisition of Bitstamp, Expanding Global Crypto Reach
Robinhood Markets Inc. has finalized its $200 million acquisition of Bitstamp, one of the longest-standing cryptocurrency exchanges, marking a strategic leap into international markets. The deal grants Robinhood immediate access to over 50 regulatory licenses across Europe, Asia, and the U.S., bypassing years of organic approval processes.
The acquisition transforms Robinhood from a U.S.-centric platform into a global crypto contender, with Bitstamp’s institutional-grade infrastructure—including white-label custody and exchange-as-a-service offerings. "This combination accelerates our ability to serve institutional clients and expand beyond U.S. retail markets," said Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev.
Bitstamp’s integration brings 85+ tradable assets to Robinhood’s platform, a significant expansion from its current 15-token U.S. offering. The MOVE comes as competitive pressures intensify in retail crypto trading, with institutional services representing higher-margin opportunities.
